The All-On-4® Process From Start to Finish

If you are unhappy with your smile, suffer from dental disease, or have experienced significant tooth loss, then All-On-4® dental implants may be the solution for your problems.

But what’s involved in this world-renowned procedure? In this article, we’ll describe precisely what All-On-4® implants are, and what’s involved in the surgical process.

At The Point Dental, we only use Nobel Biocare implants — the pioneer of All-On-4® implants. We are trained by the MALO Institute, and offer complimentary consultations for all patients seeking this procedure.

What Are All-On-4 Dental Implants?

While it’s always good to treat and strengthen pre-existing teeth where possible, there are many reasons why dental patients will need implants. Before the 90s, the main option available for tooth replacement was dentures.

There are several downsides to dentures, including the need for bone grafting. Then, in 1998, Dr Paulo Malo treated the first patient using the All-On-4® treatment concept. Now, All-On-4® implants are one of the most popular procedures for patients with significant dental health problems. It’s a minimally invasive procedure, with very little downtime and no bone grafting required.

In summary, the All-On-4® dental implant process:

  • Has a 98% success rate
  • Requires no bone grafting
  • Can be completed in 1-3 days
  • Is minimally invasive
  • Causes minimal pain and downtime

The All-On-4® Procedure – Step By Step

Book a consultation session for All-On-4®

We will need to take measurements of your mouth before we schedule the procedure. During this time, you can ask any other questions or express concerns you may have pertaining to your upcoming treatment. We will ensure you have all the necessary paperwork and information at your disposal.

We’ll also discuss pain management. You can choose partial sedation, or sleep dentistry if you are especially concerned about the upcoming procedure.

Day 1: The beginning of All-On-4

You’ll attend at our in-house general anaesthetic facility in Point Cook, where our highly trained specialists will work closely together to ensure you are comfortable during your All-On-4® procedure.

The first step in the operation is to prepare your mouth for dental implants.

  • If there are any, we will remove teeth from the jaw
  • Any areas still affected from lingering disease will be treated and cleaned
  • Required preparation of the jaw bone (All-On-4® bone reduction) will be implemented to let it accept the new teeth
  • Then, we will put the four new implants in
  • Wounds will be stitched up with completely dissolvable stitches, that will not have to be removed
  • Before we wake you, we’ll administer another anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain upon first waking up

Day 2: Installing your All-On-4® implants

We’ll test the placement of the teeth in your mouth, and screw the bridge in so you’ll be able to see how your new teeth look.

Then, we’ll check the bite of your new teeth, and conduct a few communication tests to ensure your dental implants don’t impact your speech. There are usually some small adjustments that are necessary at this stage, to improve functionality and comfort, and we’ll implement the changes to ensure you get the best out of your new implants.

Day 3: Permanently attaching All-On-4®

We’ll secure your new prosthetic teeth permanently in place. You can expect immediate functionality from your new implants. This is a simple, straightforward appointment that won’t require aesthetic.

Follow up appointments

We will schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks after your surgery. Then, every two months for the next six months.

During these appointments, we’ll check to ensure that your gums are healing as expected and that your implants are sitting in alignment with your mouth. We’ll remove any stitches, check your bite, and ensure you’re happy with how your new teeth look and feel.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From All-On-4®?

Unlike any other dentures, All-On-4® dental implants are fully functional straight after surgery. You will experience a certain level of swelling and discomfort in the weeks following your procedure. Most of the slight pain reported comes from the swelling and potential bruising, but paracetamol, ibuprofen, and in some cases, prescription painkillers, will help abate the sensations.

If you experience any signs of severe pain or discomfort, then contact our team of experienced specialists straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I take care of my new teeth?

All-On-4® dental implants are even easier to take care of than natural teeth. Brush your implants like normal, with toothpaste. To maintain good flossing hygiene, you’ll need a water flosser to clean between the bridge and gum.

Why choose The Point Dental?

At The Point Dental, we are given the license to use Nobel Biocare’s All-On-4® Trademark, the originators of the All-On-4® process concept. These implants are the only implants in the world which have been studied extensively, and proven to have an extremely high success rate.

We also have in-house general anaesthetic facility in Point Cook, so there is no need to travel to and from different locations or hospitals.

The total cost of our All-On-4® treatment starts from $24,000 including follow up appointments for up to six months post-surgery. We have interest free finance options available, and we can assist you in applying for early access to your superannuation.

How long does it take to get All-On-4® dental implants?

All-On-4® dental implants can be installed within 1-3 days. From there, you can expect a few days of recovery as the swelling from the surgery subsides. After that, your beautiful new All-On-4® teeth should be fitted nicely to your mouth.

It’s a much faster and simpler process than traditional dental implants that require bone grafting. It can take several months, even up to a year, for that process to conclude.

If you’re experiencing dental pain or discomfort, or an inability to eat certain foods due to loss of natural teeth, All-On-4® dental implants are the solution. They’re a permanent option with minimal downtime and can save you time and money for years to come.
