Is All-On-4® Worth It?

All-on-4 is a cost-effective, graft-free dental implant option that has helped many patients restore both function and confidence. Like any elective procedure, it is worth understanding what is involved before making a decision.

This guide covers how All-on-4 works, what it offers compared to dentures and other dental implants, and what to consider when deciding if it is the right option for you.

What Is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is an implant technique that replaces all missing teeth on an arch using just four implants. It was first developed in 1998 and has since become one of the most widely used full-arch implant methods.

Two implants are placed at the front of the jaw in a parallel position, and two are placed at the back at a 45-degree angle. The angled placement increases support across the jaw and compensates for bone loss, which is common in older patients.

All-on-4 does not require bone grafting, and the procedure can typically be completed in one to three days. With a 98% success rate, it is one of the more predictable treatments available.

Who Is All-on-4 Suited To?

All-on-4 may be a good option for patients who:

  • Have decayed or broken teeth that are difficult to restore
  • Are affected by advanced gum disease
  • Want a fixed alternative to removable dentures
  • Have insufficient bone density for traditional implant methods

How Does All-on-4 Compare to Dentures?

Removable dentures can present a number of ongoing challenges:

  • They may become ill-fitting over time and need replacing
  • Poorly fitting dentures can affect speech
  • They can cause discomfort by rubbing against the gums
  • Multiple appointments may be needed for refitting
  • They need to be removed daily for cleaning
  • If lost or damaged, they are costly to replace

All-on-4 implants are fixed in place, which means these issues are largely avoided.

How Does All-on-4 Compare to Traditional Implants?

Traditional implant methods may use up to eight implants per arch and often require bone grafting, which is not suitable for all patients. The healing process can take up to 12 months, and permanent teeth are not fitted until healing is complete. During that time, patients typically rely on temporary dentures.

By comparison, All-on-4 is less invasive, involves a shorter recovery, and delivers a fixed result within days rather than months.
