How To Begin Planning For An All-On-4® Treatment
The Best Way To Prepare For All-On-4® Dental Implants
Developed by Nobel Biocare, All-On-4® dental implants are a permanent and efficient way to replace all your missing teeth in the least amount of time. In other forms of dental implants, bone grafting is required.
But not with the All-On-4® treatment.
This, combined with the minimal downtime, is why it’s such a popular treatment option.
But what is the best way for implant planning to prepare for receiving an All-On-4® treatment? We’ll take you through the preparation process, and what to do if you suffer from dental fear.
At The Point Dental, our team is trained at the MALO Institute — the creators of the All-On-4® treatment. We also specialise in catering for those who experience dental fear. Book a complimentary consultation to discuss your medical history today.
How Does It Work?
The original method of dental implant involved replacing all teeth with 6-8 implants, and it could take up to 12 months to fully heal. It’s an expensive and painful method of receiving dental implants. With the All-On-4® treatment concept, we reduce your downtime to 1-3 days and can fit all 4 dental implants in one session.
We’ll place two parallel front implants and two back implants, tilted at 45 degrees. The tilt provides support for your jaw and means there is no need for bone grafting. At the end of the process, you’ll have a fixed set of teeth which replicate the look and feel of actual teeth.
How Do I Prepare For An All-On-4® Treatment?
Initial consultation
You’ll need to visit one of our dentists for a free consultation. During the appointment, we will discuss the treatment options, and provide you with more comprehensive details of the All-On-4® process.
During this implant planning phase, we will plan out implant placement, discuss your medical history, and discuss a full treatment plan. You’ll also get some information on the rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilia – where your implants are fixed.
Secondary consultation
An appointment will be made with one of our experts who will take X-rays of your teeth, and discuss your concerns. In this session, you can also talk about our options for sleep dentistry. It’s a great solution involving mild-to-moderate sedation for our clients who suffer from dental fear.
Pre-treatment work
We’ll take photos of your mouth, create models of your dental implants and plan the set-up of your replacement teeth. This is so we can get your smile looking it’s absolute best. The cost of this appointment is included in the overall price of your implant treatment.
Day 1
After removing any remaining teeth and cleaning your gums, we’ll prep your jaw bone for your new teeth. Recovery from this implant treatment generally takes around 7-10 days.
Day 2
We’ll prepare a new arrangement of your teeth in wax, and try it in your mouth. This part of the treatment is aimed at preparing your mouth so your new dental implants will be as comfortable as possible. And you’ll get to see what your new teeth look like.
Day 3
We’ll fit your teeth in place permanently. This is a pain-free part of the procedure and will take around half an hour to an hour to perform.
How Much Does It Cost?
The total cost of an All-On-4® treatment depends on how many teeth you chose, and how much preparation work needs to be undertaken. We’ll provide you with a fixed quote at your free consultation, which includes all review appointments for up to 6 months post-surgery.
We also offer flexible interest-free payment plans and can help you apply for early access to your superannuation to fund your dental work.
How Long Do They Last?
As long as you maintain regular checkups and your gums remain healthy and stable, most All-On-4® implants last longer than 20 years. In fact, most clients show a 98 per cent rate of retaining their dentures with no issues 5 years post-treatment. Some of the issues which can cause problems with your All-On-4® dentures include:
- Incorrect positioning
- Inadequate impressions
- Nerve damage
- Allergic reactions
- Peri-implantitis
This is why it’s so important to choose a dental practice with a team of experts highly trained in the application of these types of dentures.
Does Insurance Cover All-On-4?®
We accept most major health funds, so you can claim on the spot. The amount you get back will depend on your level of cover, and which fund you are with. We offer claims for funds such as:
- HBF
- Medibank
- Bupa
- Australian Unity
- HCF
- CBHS
- nib
